Toyota Kirloskar Motor introduced the Urban Cruiser HyRyder, its first offering in the highly competitive midsize SUV segment, in September 2022. Toyota offers the HyRyder in both petrol and hybrid powertrain options.

The Urban Cruiser HyRyder combines Toyota's renowned reliability and performance with a stylish and modern design, offering customers an exciting driving experience. Despite the high competition from its twin Grand Vitara, HyRyder is rocking the sales chart.

Toyota offers the HyRyder in 4 variants - E, S, G, and V. The strong hybrid variants such as S, G, and V have higher demand in the market and have a waiting period of up to 78 weeks.

On the other hand, the mild hybrid variants of the Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder have a waiting period of up to 35 weeks, depending on the trim and location of the customer.

With the likes of Toyota Hyryder and Innova Hycross, the Japanese automaker is currently leading the hybrid car market in India. According to Toyota, "The hybrid bet is a turning point. It will be a litmus test for Toyota's future and success in India."

Toyota achieved impressive sales figures in the first quarter of 2023, selling 22,389 units of strong hybrid vehicles. This remarkable performance accounted for an impressive 83 per cent of the market share.

The carmaker has plans to expand its fleet of hybrid cars by introducing three new models in the near future. These models include a coupe SUV based on the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, a 7-seater SUV based on the Corolla Cross, and an upgraded version of the popular Fortuner SUV.

On the engine front, Hyryder houses a 1.5-litre petrol engine with strong hybrid tech paired with an e-CVT transmission. The strong hybrid mill produces a combined output of 114 bhp and 122Nm of torque and is claimed to deliver a mileage of 27.97 km/l.

The mild hybrid variants have a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine producing 102bhp and 132Nm of torque. The powertrain is paired with a 5-speed MT and 6-speed AT, and an optional AWD. There is also a bi-fuel CNG option.

Thoughts On The Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder's Extended Waiting Period

Apart from the higher demands, the global shortage of semiconductors can also be a reason for this extension. HyRyder is a fully loaded vehicle when it comes to features, and that requires a lot of semiconductors.

Despite the waiting period, the car is enjoying great demand across the country. As Toyota works to fulfill the increasing orders, buyers can anticipate the joy of owning the SUV, knowing their patience will be rewarded with a remarkable driving experience.
