US EV Manufacturer Fisker To Enter Indian Market In September - Tesla Rival?

The Indian EV market is buzzing with many automobile companies who want to try their luck in the world's one of the largest automobile markets. From sleek electric cars to two-wheelers, the EV landscape in India is expanding rapidly, offering eco-friendly and efficient mobility options.

Recently, It was reported that EV giant Tesla will set up their plant in India. Tesla is known for its cutting-edge electric vehicle technology, long-range capabilities, fast charging infrastructure, and autonomous driving features.

Even before Tesla finalized its plans for its operations in India, it was reported that there is a possibility that its first competitor from the USA could enter the Indian market.

Fisker, a US-based EV startup, has announced its plans to enter the Indian market in the coming months with its flagship electric SUV, the Ocean. This EV competes against Tesla's Model Y in the US market.

The automaker will debut in India with the sales of limited-edition electric SUVs, all of which will be imported into the country directly by the manufacturer. Earlier, Fisker had plans to debut in India this month. However, the US-based EV maker has confirmed that it will arrive in September.

Initially, the company will only sell 100 units of the Ocean electric SUV. They also revealed their plans to manufacture the car in the upcoming years locally. Fisker said they'll start the deliveries of the Ocean EV in India around the festive season.

The upcoming Fisker electric SUV will be priced aligning with the EU market. The electric SUV costs 69,950 euros, roughly around Rs 65 lakh, without taxes. The car will cost around $37,499 in the US, which is Rs 31 lakh in India.

The SUV comes in three variants: Extreme and Ultra, high-range models utilizing nickel-based battery chemistry, and the base variant called Ocean Sport, which uses iron-based battery chemistry. The Ocean Sport variant provides a range of 402 km per charge.

The top-end variant, Fisker Ocean Extreme, offers around 563km, whereas Ocean Ultra offers a range of 547km on a single charge. On the other hand, the Tesla Model Y will only offer a range of 531km on a single charge.

The battery spec and other details of the Indian-bound Fisker are yet to be known. The SUV is expected to have all-wheel drive as a standard feature, and the top trim, Ocean Extreme, the top trim, is said to have a solar roof that is claimed to produce enough power for 3,218km of driving every year.
