As electric vehicles gain prominence in India's two-wheeler market, petrol vehicles are gradually losing their popularity. The competitive pricing and reduced maintenance costs of EVs are drawing more people towards the electric segment day by day.

Considering the present economic situation, EVs are proving to be highly practical, especially for daily commuters who rely on vehicles for their everyday needs. In the past, the market was dominated by start-up brands, but now even the established and leading brands of the country have ventured into this field.

A few months back, it was reported that the once popular Kinetic Luna will come in electric guise to take over the moped range. Now, TVS has revealed its plans to manufacture an electric version of its highly popular XL100 moped.

The introduction of the XL Electric is part of TVS Motor Company's strategy to expand its electric vehicle line-up and it will be the brand's next electric two-wheeler to hit the market. Patent files and images related to this upcoming model have recently been released by the TVS.

TVS aims to build on the success of its iCube model with the implementation of the new strategy. The company also plans to secure a strong position in the electric moped segment before the arrival of the Kinetic Luna.

According to the patent images, the upcoming electric version of the XL100 model will not have many noticeable differences from its petrol-powered counterpart. It doesn't do full justice to the idea of a moped since the electric version has no pedals.

The manufacturer will be aiming to reproduce the classic charm that the petrol-powered moped had. The XL electric will come with a tubular chassis, round headlight, split seat and tubular grab-rail.

From the looks of it, the e-moped will have a centrally-mounted battery pack for attaining proper weight distribution and increasing stability. The XL electric is expected to use a belt-drive system for smooth power-delivery and the telescopic front forks and dual rear springs will add to the comfortable riding experience.

The electric moped will be equipped with front and rear drum brakes and will feature spoke wheels. While the official power specifications are yet to be disclosed, the TVS XL Electric Moped is anticipated to deliver performance figures similar to its petrol-powered counterpart.

Thoughts On TVS XL Electric

An interesting fact is that there is a strong demand in the market for EVs, regardless of the models that are introduced. The introduction of the XL electric will be a great relief for people who reside in tier 2, tier 3 localities.

Even though the initial upfront cost will be higher than its petrol counterpart, people can save on maintenance and fuel expenses. Ultimately, the success of the TVS XL Electric will depend on factors such as its pricing, real-world range, charging infrastructure support, and overall user experience.
