TVR Electric Sports Car Reportedly In Development For 2024

2 years ago 85

It has been 5 years since TVR announced that it was developing an all-new Griffith sports car model. Now, information has emerged that this car wouldn’t be based on the internal combustion engine but rather will have an electric power train. The report comes from Autocar UK which says that eventually, a new Griffith is coming with an electric underpinning. And this may not be the only car that’s coming from the beleaguered British sports car brand, but rather multiple new models are in the works.

TVR revealed to AutoCar that it didn’t start production of the Griffith originally as planned in 2019 after announcing the car because it needed to renovate its factory in Ebbw Vale. At the time, the lack of funds played a part in the delay and then the pandemic happened. It is only when it procured investment from a South American company called Ensorcia.

It needed to secure an order of $30.1 million to begin production. It has plans to hire 200 people and now the company is waiting for the tooling to be installed in the factory. In fact, one can even place an order for the new Griffith from the website, that being said it still says it will be based on a V8 engine.

There is a chance that TVR may launch the new Griffith with an internal combustion engine; the very same V8 that is listed on its website before it over onto the electric power train.

TVR hasn’t launched a new vehicle since 2006 with its last car being the Sagaris which was sold between 2004 and 2006. It made only 211 units of that car and then the company re-emerged in 2017 with the unveiling of the new Griffith. There is a long road ahead for TVR and launching a new Griffith regardless of it being an electric one or a V8-based model will be hard despite the investment.
