British motorcycle manufacturer Triumph has revealed the Speed 400 & Scrambler 400 X motorcycles. The Triumph Speed 400 & Scrambler 400 X are the first motorcycles from the British firm's partnership with Bajaj.

The new Triumph motorcycles join the British firm's modern classic lineup and are both powered by an all-new fuel-injected, liquid-cooled 'TR' series engine that takes its name from the Triumph racing singles of the early twentieth century and, in particular, Six Day Trial offroad competition.

The 398cc cylinder engine features four valves and dual overhead camshafts that help this free-revving single-cylinder produce 39.5bhp and 37.5Nm of peak torque. Power is sent to the rear wheel via chain drive and a brand-new six-speed gearbox.

Both the Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X are lightweight motorcycles weighing 170kg and 179kg, respectively. The seat sits 790mm above the ground on the Speed 400, while the Scrambler 400 X's seat sits a little higher at 835mm.

Both new Triumph bikes sport model-specific chassis setups, with a new frame, bolt-on rear subframe and cast-aluminium swingarm working in tandem with bespoke suspension setup and geometry.

The Speed 400 sports large 43mm big-piston upside-down front forks, a mono-shock at the rear and rides on lightweight 17-inch wheels shod with Metzeler Sportec M9RR tyres measuring 110/70 (front) and 150/60 (rear).

The braking is handled by a 300mm fixed disc at the front and a 230mm fixed unit at the rear. The front disc is clamped down by 4-piston callipers, while the rear sports a single-piston calliper.

The Scrambler 400 X offers 150mm wheel travel at both ends - 10mm more at the front and 20mm more at the rear compared to the Speed 400. The Scrambler 400 X features a staggered wheel setup - 19-inch (100/90 rubber) at the front and a 17-inch wheel at the rear (140/80) shod with Metzeler Karoo Street.

Braking duties on the Triumph Scrambler 400 X are handled by a 320mm fixed disc at the front and a 230mm fixed unit at the rear. The front brake is clamped down by 4-piston callipers, while the rear disc sports a single-piston calliper. Both bikes feature dual-channel ABS.

In terms of design, both bikes feature similar circular headlamps and sport the roadster and Scrambler silhouettes that have become so well known from Triumph's bigger bikes. Both feature sculpted tanks with knee indents and upswept exhausts, with the Scrambler's a double-barrel unit.

Both bikes also get the usual design highlights like the black powder-coated engine casings and the gold anodised forks, while the free-flowing exhaust is sure to let people know you're coming from far away.

The Speed 400 sports two-tone paint schemes, each featuring a prominent Triumph tank graphic that reflects its roadster styling. The Speed 400 is offered in Carnival Red, Caspian Blue and Phantom Black colour schemes.

The Scrambler 400 X gets protectors for the headlight, radiator and sump, as well as handguards, a handlebar brace with pad and a longer front mudguard. The Scrambler 400 X is offered in three colour options - Matt Khaki Green and Fusion White, Carnival Red and Phantom Black, plus Phantom Black and Silver Ice options.

Triumph has bolted a lot of tech into the new Scrambler 400 X and Speed 400, including Ride-by-wire throttle, Traction Control, ABS, and Torque-assist clutch, along with LED lighting all around. Both bikes also come fitted with a steering lock and an anti-theft immobiliser as standard.

Thoughts About The Triumph Speed 400 & Scrambler 400 X

The Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X see the British brand set its eyes firmly on Royal Enfiled's crown in India. The launch is set for the 5th of July, and we expect both bikes to cost around the Rs 3 lakh mark at launch.
