The Indian motorcycle market is witnessing a significant development as renowned premium brands, such as Harley-Davidson and Triumph, venture into the realm of smaller displacement bikes. This strategic move aims to cater to the evolving demands of Indian riders.

Recently Triumph has revealed the Speed 400 & Scrambler 400 X bikes. They are the first motorcycles developed from Triumph's partnership with Bajaj. The Speed 400 was launched in July, and the Scambler is expected to be launched in October this year.

The Speed 400 got a successful head start, generating huge demand shortly after its launch. The motorcycle has amassed many bookings, leading to an average waiting period of approximately three to four months.

Triumph had announced that the official deliveries would begin by the end of July. According to our sources, dealerships are now informing customers of a waiting period ranging from 12 to 16 weeks, which varies depending on the location.

The Triumph Speed 400 is manufactured in India and will be exported globally. India is the first market to receive the motorcycle, as the bike is being produced at Bajaj Auto's newly established Chakan facility in Maharashtra.

The company's initial idea was to initiate production in different phases, aiming to establish a smoothly functioning facility. This approach is intended to account for the introduction of new machinery, the training of the workforce, and the production of a new motorcycle.

With the higher demand, Bajaj has to level up production much earlier than expected. Initially, the production will primarily focus on meeting the demand within India, while the international launch is scheduled for early 2024.

The plant will also produce bikes to export to Triumph facilities in the UK, Brazil, and Thailand as assembly kits. This modus operandi will put a hold on the prices and help Triumph keep competitive pricing across markets.

It is important to highlight that the current demand is being dealt with by almost 20 Triumph dealerships that are spread across the country. However, Bajaj Auto is actively expanding the Triumph dealer network in the coming months for a hassle-free experience.

The all newTriumph Speed is priced at Rs 2.33 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi) and will be offered for Rs 2.23 lakh for the first 10,000 customers. You can book the motorcycle online and at Triumph dealerships.

Thoughts On The Waiting Period For Triumph Speed 400

Despite the waiting period, the bike is getting a large number of bookings day by day. Thanks to the legacy of Triumph motorcycles. This modern-classic roadster will compete against the likes of segment leader Royal Enfield's Classic and Bullet, along with Jawa, Yezdi, Honda, and Harley-Davidson.

Bajaj Auto plays a pivotal role in the sales and distribution of Triumph motorcycles in India, and the long-term success of the Speed 400 relies heavily on the after-sales and service experience.
