Toyota Hilux EV confirmed for 2025, Isuzu D-Max EV rival

3 weeks ago 9

The Hilux EV was first showcased in Bangkok back in December 2022 as a concept.

Toyota has confirmed its plans of introducing a battery-powered Hilux pickup truck by the end of next year, initially in the Thailand market. The announcement comes just a few days after Isuzu revealed the D-Max EV (D-MAX BEV) at the Bangkok International Motor Show 2024, and announced that it would manufacture the electric pickup truck in Thailand by 2025.

  1. Toyota Hilux EV will be based on standard Hilux
  2. Could get 4WD as standard
  3. India gets diesel-powered Hilux

Toyota Motor Thailand's President Noriaki Yamashita revealed the Hilux EV could be ready by the end of next year, however, it was not specified if the Hilux EV will be produced in the country itself or imported from overseas. Yamashita also said that Toyota, the market leader in Thailand, will deliver about a dozen Hilux EV pickup trucks to the tourist beach town of Pattaya for trials as public transportation next month.

The Hilux EV was first publicly seen in the form of the Hilux Revo BEV concept back in December 2022. At the time, the concept was stated to be one year away from entering production. Toyota is yet to reveal technical specifications of the upcoming Hilux EV, including the battery capacity, range, power, torque, and more.

Nonetheless, we expect the Toyota Hilux EV to offer a standard 4WD system with a dual-battery system - one on each axle. For reference, the Isuzu D-Max EV has a 66.9kWh battery pack and a combined power and torque output of 177hp and 325Nm respectively. The Isuzu electric pickup truck has a maximum payload capacity of 1,000kg, and a towing capacity of 3,500kg.
