While the ex-showroom price of the Toyota Fortuner GR-S is on the higher side considering the SUV already costs Rs 3.8 lakh more than the 4WD variant of the already expensive Fortuner Legender SUV, the on-road price of the SUV in Bangalore seems to be more in the league of premium German brands.
Diving into details, while the ex-showroom price remains identical at Rs 48.43 lakh, one per cent of the ex-showroom is added as TCS. In addition to that, Rs 9.68 lakh is added as road tax and the insurance amount stands at Rs 1.90 lakh.
Calculating, the on-road price for the Toyota Fortuner GR-S stands at Rs 60.01 lakh, this price excluding a few usual dealership shenanigans.
Speaking about the Toyota Fortuner GR-S, the SUV features both mechanical and cosmetic upgrades over other variants of the Toyota Fortuner SUV, and unlike other variants of the Toyota Fortuner, the GR-S variant of the Toyota Fortuner is available solely with a 4WD drivetrain and an automatic gearbox.
The newly launched Toyota Fortuner GR-S variant is exclusively available in just two exterior colour options unlike other variants of the SUV. These colour options on the Fortuner GR-S includes Attitude Black and White Pearl Crystal, out of which the White Pearl Crystal costs an additional Rs 15,000 on the ex-showroom price itself.
Speaking about the design, the newly launched Toyota Fortuner GR-S SUV gets a new redesigned front bumper with a more aggressive-looking air dam and an equally aggressive fog lamp housing. In addition to this, the front end also sports a 'GR' badging for differentiating the model.
Coming to the sides, we can see that Toyota has opted to use new alloy wheels with a darker shade instead of the dual-tone finish. This enhances the rugged appeal of the SUV. Also, the Toyota Fortuner GR-S SUV features red brake calipers with the 'GR' logo for added sportiness.
At the rear, the new Toyota Fortuner GR-S variant also features a redesigned rear bumper with more aggressive styling. Also, the rear tail lamps are bridged by a body-coloured trim.
On the inside, the new variant features more than a few cosmetic changes to induce a sportier look. These changes include black leather seats, suede upholstery with red stitchings, and plenty of 'GR' logos.
In addition to these cosmetic changes, the centre console and the instrument panel also get a different trim finish. However, these changes barely justify the 'Rs 60 lakh' price tag.
Even the feature list on the newly launched Toyota Fortuner GR-S looks almost similar to the feature list of the Toyota Legender SUV with the inclusion of features such as a large 8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, connected car tech, JBL audio system, gesture control electrical tailgate, ESP, ABS, traction control (TC), stability control, 7 airbags and many more.
Powering the newly launched Toyota Fortuner GR-S is the same 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine that powers other variants of the Toyota Fortuner. This engine produces a very respectable 201bhp of peak power and 500Nm of peak torque.
Thoughts About Toyota Fortuner GR-S
Toyota Fortuner is a fantastic SUV with seating for 7 adults and comes with bullet-proof reliability. Though the SUV is highly capable and also offers decent interiors, at Rs 60 lakh on-road, the SUV suddenly feels incapable of holding the water.
