India's interest in electric vehicles continued in the second quarter with battery EV sales reaching an all-time high in Q2 with 26,794 units finding new homes.

Tata Motors continued to dominate the Indian EV market with the Mumbai-based carmaker taking all three spots on the podium with its array of value-for-money electric cars.

The Tata Tiago EV hatchback sits atop the sales charts with Tata selling 10,695 units of the electric hatchback, which accounted for 40 per cent of EV sales in India in Q2 2023.

Taking second place on the list was the Tata Nexon EV. The compact electric SUV found 5,072 new homes (19% of passenger EV sales) in the second quarter of 2023. The Tata Nexon EV is offered in two guises for the Indian car market - EV & EV Max with the latter offering more power and range.

Taking the third spot on the list was the Tata Tigor EV. Tata sold 3,257 units of the Tigor EV with the electric sedan accounting for 12 per cent of passenger electric vehicle sales in Q2 2023.

Next on the list is Mahindra's XUV400 which accounted for eight per cent of all passenger EV sales in Q2 2023. In the second quarter of the year, Mahindra shipped out 2,234 units of the XUV400 to new homes.

Coming in 5th was MG's minuscule Comet EV. MG sold 1,914 units of the tiny two-door, four-seater electric hatchback that arrived on our roads on the 26th of April. The MG Comet EV accounted for just over 7 per cent of passenger EV sales in Q2, 2023.

MG makes another appearance on the list with the firm's ZS EV taking the sixth spot on the sales charts, accounting for 6.5 per cent of passenger EV sales in Q2, 2023. 1,747 units of the MG ZS EV found new homes in the second quarter of the 2023 calendar year.

The final four spots on the sales charts were taken up by the Citroen eC3 (576 units), Hyundai Ioniq 5 (449 units), BYD Atto 3 (412 units), and the Kia EV6 (279 units).

Final Thoughts On India's Top 10 EVs From Q2, 2023

The second quarter of the calendar year 2023 saw passenger EV sales blossom despite the government cutting down on FAME-II subsidies. Tata's continued dominance was expected, but the sprightly little MG Comet getting into the top 5 on the sales charts is surely a cause for joy.
