German carmaker Porsche recently opened its first-ever Charging Lounge for its EV customers. The first-ever Porsche Charging Lounge is found near the town of Bingen am Rhein in Germany.

While the Porsche Charging Lounges are an addition to the Ionity fast charging network, these will be exclusively available to Porsche customers. Porsche will be expanded across Germany at first with the network set to expand to Austria and Switzerland.

The Porsche Charging Lounge offers six 300-kW DC fast-charging stations and four 22-kW AC charging points. While the maximum charging speed for the DC chargers is currently at 300kW, Porsche will increase this to 400kW next year.

The Porsche Charging Lounge will not only charge up the firm's electric cars but can also top up the battery packs of the firm's plug-in hybrid vehicles. All the chargers at the Porsche charging lounge are manufactured by Italian specialists Alpitronic and use power from certified renewable sources.

Owners wishing to access the Porsche Charging Lounge will need a Porsche ID. When you arrive at the location, a camera will scan the number plate and match it with the existing Porsche ID. If a match is confirmed, the owner will have access to the lounge.

Once in and with the car on charge, owners can access the amenities of the Porsche Charging Lounge. The Porsche Charging Lounge offers air conditioning (or heating in the winter) through a heat pump that operates without fossil fuels. Solar cells fitted to the roof provide part of the Lounge's electricity.

Electrified Porsche owners will have access to the drinks and snacks machines, magazines, free Wi-Fi, a small gym and modern bathrooms. Once the charging is done, paying for the charge (€0.33 per kWh) and use of the snacks and drinks can be done with debit and credit cards as well as Apple Pay or Google Pay.

Speaking about the new Porsche Charging Lounge, Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG said, "Porsche has mapped out an ambitious path towards electrification. 2030 we want over 80 per cent of the cars that we deliver to be all-electric. This ambitious ramp-up requires a high-performance and dense fast-charging network. The exclusive Porsche Charging Lounges are making an important contribution to this. They are a barrier-free, sustainable and state-of-the-art addition to the IONITY network."

Thoughts About The Porsche Charging Lounge

The Porsche Charging Lounge shows us how luxury carmakers will differentiate the charging experience for customers as the world switches to electric power. However, the fact that these will be exclusive to a single brand makes them seem a bit snobbish
