Tata Motors is expected to launch the much-awaited CNG variant of the Tata Punch SUV in the coming weeks. Along with the twin-cylinder CNG technology, this upcoming model is also likely to feature an electric sunroof in the higher-spec variants.

With the launch of the Tata Punch CNG, Tata Motors will be further expanding its CNG product lineup. This expanded CNG product lineup is expected to boost the overall sales figures for the automaker, especially in tier 1 and tier 2 cities.

Speaking about the upcoming Tata Punch CNG, the model was showcased alongside the recently launched Tata Altroz CNG at the Auto Expo 2023. Also, thanks to its unique twin-cylinder technology, the Tata Punch CNG attracted plenty of attention to itself.

Like the Tata Altroz CNG, we expect the upcoming Tata Punch CNG to be powered by a 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated engine with 72.5bhp and 103Nm of torque (CNG mode). However, in petrol mode, this engine will produce a healthier 84.48bhp and 113Nm of torque.

Unlike the standard model, the upcoming Tata Punch CNG SUV will not be offered with a 5-speed AMT unit. Instead, the model is expected to come exclusively with a 5-speed manual transmission.

In terms of features, the upcoming CNG version of the Tata Punch SUV is expected to feature an electric sunroof in the higher trim levels. These new sunroof-equipped trim levels are also likely to be offered in the petrol variants.

While the standard Tata Punch features a large 366-litre boot, we expect the upcoming CNG version of the Punch SUV to sport a 231-litre boot. This is calculated on the basis that the boot space of the Altroz CNG shrunk by 135 litres compared to the standard model.

Speaking about the twin-cylinder technology, engineers at Tata Motors have cleverly installed two smaller CNG tanks measuring 30 litres each instead of one big tank. This move has allowed the engineers to utilise the boot space in a better manner.

It is also worth mentioning that the spare tyre of the upcoming Punch CNG is likely to be mounted under the car to liberate more space inside the boot. Also, the model features at the Auto Expo 2023 featured a similar setup as well.

Thoughts About The Tata Punch CNG

With the launch of the Tata Punch CNG, Tata Motors will be aiming to boost the sales of the micro-SUV in the urban markets. This upcoming model will also help the automaker better compete against the newly launched Hyundai Exter SUV.
