How to change a car's tyre

Step 1: Find a safe space

Find a place where you can easily change your car's tyre on the road. It would help if you parked in a spot where there is ample distance between the road and you so that the incoming traffic does not cause any problem.

Step 2: Turn on the parking lights

Alert the other vehicles when you turn on your parking or hazard lights. You will be able to change your car's tyre safely, as the incoming vehicles will notice your parking lights.

Step 3: Engage the hand brake

You should ensure that you engage the hand brake properly to lock your car in a still position while changing the tyre, especially when you are unscrewing the damaged tyre(s) and / or screwing on the new tyre(s). The car needs to be stationary when you are changing the tyre.

Step 4: Remove the wheel covers

You need to remove the wheel cover before you start changing the tyre. Different cars have different wheel covers, and you should refer to your owner's manual to understand how it's done for your car.

Step 5: Loosen the lug nuts

Loosen the lug nuts using a lug wrench before moving on to the next step. Your tyres have nuts and bolts that keep them in place, and the lug wrench will help you remove these so that you can replace the flat tyre.
