Mini Electric Crossover Concept To Arrive In July

Mini has not revealed any details about the upcoming electric crossover. However, the British marque has stated that the concept study will be a fully electric crossover model for the premium small car segment. Mini has also stated that the new crossover will be the replacement for the current Countryman model.

The news about the upcoming electric crossover concept was revealed as the carmaker took the wraps off the design language for its electric future. The BMW-owned British marque claims that its models of the future will bring together a modern and purist exterior and an interior design that focuses on the essentials.

Speaking about the design for future cars from the brand, Oliver Heilmer, Head of Mini Design stated, "Purely electrically powered models from Mini give us a unique opportunity to rethink our design. At the same time, we retain the attention to detail, sense of tradition and passion for innovation that Mini is renowned for. The Mini Design DNA will clearly come through in every model of this new generation, leaving its brand affiliation in no doubt whatsoever. At the same time, the Mini design team has successfully created strong product features with individual accents that more than ever before underscore a sense of independence."

Mini has named its new design philosophy - Charismatic Simplicity. Under this new philosophy, Mini will give each new member of its new electric lineup "its own individual charisma that is unmistakably based on the brand's core, reinterpreting it confidently and in its own way." Mini claims that the new Charismatic Simplicity philosophy will see it reduce the number of components and concentrate on essential elements.

These elements include the iconic Union Jack taillights that have become a Mini signature element. With the use of advanced LED technology, Mini states that it will be able to provide each model with its own unique light signature. The new lineup of electric Minis will also do away with most of the chrome elements found in the current cars.

The new lineup of electric Minis under the new Charismatic Simplicity design language will also be sustainable. Mini is ditching leather for its new lineup of electric cars and will instead make more use of recycled materials.

The new Mini crossover concept will also feature the circular OLED infotainment display first seen on the Vision Urbanaut concept electric vehicle from 2020. However, the electric crossover concept vehicle will retain quite a few analogue controllers like toggle switches below the central circular interface.
