Mercedes-Benz recently created headlines with its latest MBUX system. Not only is the new infotainment unit bigger and more intuitive to use than its predecessor but it also seamlessly integrated many functions into the system.

Now, Mercedes-Benz has added a new level to the MBUX system by integrating its voice control feature with the ChatGPT. This new AI integration is expected to make the 'Hey Mercedes' voice assistant a lot more advanced and intuitive.

However, this feature is yet to be rolled out. However, Mercedes-Benz customers with the MBUX infotainment system can now join the optional beta programme through the Mercedes Me app or by using the voice command "Hey Mercedes, I want to join the beta programme".

It is also worth mentioning that the beta programme will be updated over air and doe not require any visit to the service centre. For this integration of ChatGPT, Mercedes is using the Azure OpenAI Service.

Mercedes already claims that it has set 'Industry Standard' with its MBUX voice assistant. However, with the integration of ChatGPT, we expect the 'Hey Mercedes' voice assistant to become very intuitive and able to handle complex tasks.

In fact, the Chat GPT integration will go beyond predefined tasks such as controlling a few aspects of the vehicle and gathering information. According to Mercedes, integration of ChatGPT with MBUX will now enable users to even control their smart homes and even solve complicated questions.

That being said, such a powerful AI tool also raises concerns regarding data privacy. For this, Mercedes-Benz is using Azure OpenAI's large-scale generative AI models combined with the enterprise-grade security, privacy and reliability capabilities of Azure.

Furthermore, Mercedes-Benz claims that it retains complete control over the IT process in the background. On top of that, the company even claims that the voice command data collected is stored in the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud.

Thoughts About MBUX & ChatGPT

With the integration of ChatGPT, the 'Hey Mercedes' voice command system will not only become intuitive to use, but it can also perform complex tasks as well. In fact, if Mercedes is able to extract the maximum out of the ChatGPT, the system will be almost like a virtual butler.
