Mercedes has taken the wraps off the much-awaited AMG GLC SUV. This new performance SUV from Mercedes is available in two variants - GLC 43 4Matic, and GLC 63 S e-Performance.

Starting with the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4Matic SUV, this performance variant uses a 2.0-litre, 4,-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine with 415.2bhp and 499Nm of peak torque. This petrol engine is further supplemented by a 13.8bhp belt-driven starter generator.

Thanks to this engine and all-wheel-drive system, the new Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4Matic SUV can sprint to 100km/h from a standstill in just 4.8 seconds. Moreover, the top speed of this SUV is said to be in excess of 250km/h.

In comparison, the top-of-the-line Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S e-Performance SUV uses a similar 2.0-litre, 4,-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine as the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4Matic. However, this engine in the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S e-Performance variant is a bit more powerful and also uses proper hybrid tech as well.

The electric part of this hybrid powertrain in the new Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S e-Performance SUV consists of a 201.2bhp electric motor. In a combined state, this powertrain puts out a massive 670.7bhp and 1020Nm of torque.

Thanks to this powertrain set-up, the new Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S e-Performance SUV can sprint to 100km/h in just 3.5 seconds. However, the top speed of this model has been restricted to just 274km/h.

Furthermore, the hybrid powertrain set up in the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S e-Performance variant consists of a 6.1kWh battery pack. As such, the model is also capable of running on pure electric power for a distance of up to 12 kilometres.

That being said, it is yet to be known whether the German automaker will launch the AMG range of the GLC SUV in India. However, the company has already commenced the booking for the next-gen GLC SUV in India and the token amount has been capped at Rs 1,50,000.

Thoughts About The New Mercedes-AMG GLC Performance SUV Range

As expected, the new Mercedes-AMG GLC range of performance SUVs use the same powertrain setup as the current-gen Mercedes-AMG C-Class range. Moreover, we expect these SUVs to extend the automaker's grip in the performance SUV segment.
