McLaren has inaugurated its first dealership in Mumbai, marking the brand’s official entry into India. Recently, however, some of its vehicles have already reached India through private imports. McLaren has also opened a dedicated service centre operated by McLaren-trained engineers in Mumbai.
We had reported back in 2019 that McLaren was evaluating an India launch which has been a small yet growing market. Speaking at the launch of the showroom, Lalit Choudary, executive chairman of Infinity Cars – the authorised dealer of McLaren in India – said he “pursued McLaren since 2016 and am now proud to have the British Marque in our country”.
Paul Harris, Managing Director APAC and China, McLaren said that the Mumbai showroom will be the hub for all operations in the region. “Going forward Mumbai will be a key market for the brand.
The supercar manufacturer will offer its entire portfolio that comprises the GT, Artura, 720S, 720S Spider, 765LT as well as the 765LT Spider.
McLaren 765LT Spider
One of the cars that McLaren showcased was the 765LT Spider, which it claims is the fastest convertible it has ever produced. A part of the track-focused ‘Longtail’ models, the 765LT Spider features the same aerodynamic carbon fibre bodywork as the coupe version including a more aggressive front bumper and splitter, lower door blades and side skirts, and a wraparound rear bumper. It also has a folding roof that can be folded in 11 seconds.
It is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 765hp and 800Nm of torque which sends power to the rear wheels via a 7-speed sequential gearbox. It will be limited to 765 units but McLaren hasn’t mentioned any India prices for it as of now.
McLaren 720S Spider
McLaren also showcased the 720S Spider, which was globally unveiled in 2018. The drop-top supercar also uses the same 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 as the 765LT, but it produces 720hp and 770Nm of torque. McLaren claims the 720S can achieve a 0-100kph time of 2.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 341kph with the roof up and 325kph with it folded.
Like the 765LT, the roof on the 720S also takes 11 seconds to fold. Last year, McLaren announced the prices of a few of its models and the 720S Spider is priced at Rs 5.04 crores (ex-showroom).
