Maruti Suzuki Ertiga & XL6 Pending Orders Cross 1 Lakh Units – The MPV Dilemma

Both the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and XL6 are among the best-selling MPVs in the country. In fact, the demand for both these MPVs have gone soo high that Maruti Suzuki is having more than 1 lakh pending orders.

One of the reasons for the major backlog is due to the supply chain crisis, which the Indo-Japanese automaker has been facing for quite some time now. On top of that, Maruti Suzuki has also been facing some production constraints as well.

Looking at the numbers, Maruti Suzuki manages to sell 10,528 units of Ertiga MPV in India during the last month, whereas the more premium XL6 MPV managed to add another 3,577 units to the overall sales volume of the Indo-Japanese automaker.

This means, both these MPVs bring almost 10 per cent of the sales volume for Maruti Suzuki in the month of May 2023. This means both of these MPVs are valuable products for the Indo-Japanese automaker.

It is also worth mentioning that the CNG variant of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga alone is responsible for approximately 68,000 pending orders. Furthermore, this number also makes up to 56 per cent of Maruti Suzuki's CNG order backlog which currently stands at 1.21 lakh units.

Given the high backlog figures, the waiting period for the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga MPV extends as far as 10 months. On the other hand, the waiting period for the more premium Maruti Suzuki XL6 MPV stands at a more bearable 4-5 months.

That being said, the YoY sales figures for both the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and XL6 MPVs have gone down in the last month. However, this dip in YoY sales performance is the result of production constraints.

Thoughts About Maruti Suzuki Ertiga & XL6 MPV Pending Orders

Despite the long waiting period, most of the Maruti Suzuki's customers are willing to wait for the Ertiga and XL6 MPVs. This shows how deep-rooted Maruti Suzuki is in the Indian automobile market.
