The Karanataka State Forest Department has taken delivery of four Force Gurkha SUVs. Images of the four Gurkhas lined up outside the dealership have surfaced and they certainly look majestic. The four new Force Gurkha SUVs will serve the Forest Department in the jungles around Kollegal in Chamarajnagar district.
There is a huge responsibility riding on the shoulders of the Forest Department officials in states like Karnataka. Their primary duty is to monitor and protect the forest and all the flora and fauna in it. This involves a lot of travel inside the forest and around it and a large part of this travel will certainly be off the road.
As a result, the Forest Department personnel require a robust vehicle that can handle a beating and can take on any off-road terrain. Until now, the Forest Department used vehicles like the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy, Mahindra MM540, Mahindra Commander, Mahindra Thar, and even the Mahindra Bolero.
They are all extremely capable vehicles. However, there is one SUV in India that outshines the rest when it comes to off-road abilities - the Force Gurkha. It is known for its legendary off-road prowess and it is very comfortable at the same time.
Well, it does seem like officials of the Forest Department were very impressed by the Gurkha's much-spoken-about ride quality and its off-road credentials. Personnel of the department in Kollegal will soon be driving around the jungles in four brand-new Force Gurkha SUVs.
The Force Gurkha is powered by a 2.6-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-diesel engine that puts out 89.75bhp at 3,200rpm and 250Nm at 1,400-2,400rpm. It features a live independent axle up front and a live rigid rear axle.
With a gradeability of around 35-degrees, front and rear mechanical differential locks, and a water wading capacity of 700mm, the Force Gurkha can take on almost anything thrown at it. No further details are known at the moment and we can only speculate that the Forest Department might order more of these brutes.
Yet another interesting fact about this development is that these four SUVs are finished in a shade of Forest Green, which is a Forest Department specialty. This colour will not be available for private buyers to purchase.
Thoughts On Karnataka Forest Department Taking Delivery Of Four Force Gurkha SUVs
The Force Gurkha holds a special and revered place in the off-road fraternity thanks to its capabilities. Now, the Forest Department in certain parts of Karnataka will get a good taste of the great ride quality in the Force Gurkha. If all goes well, Force Motors might sell a few more Gurkha SUVs to the state's Forest Department.
