DeLorean Alpha5 EV Unveiled With Over 483km Range - Flux Capacitors Not Included

Ahead of its return at one of the best known car shows in the world, the American carmaker has revealed a few details about its new Alpha5 EV. The new Alpha, like the iconic DeLorean DMC-12 is designed by Italian design house Italdesign. Like its iconic predecessor from the Back to the Future movies, the new Alpha5 also features gullwing doors.

However, unlike the DMC-12, the new DeLorean Alpha5 features a curved and smoothed out body which has a low coefficient of drag figure of 0.23. The front end of the Alpha5 EV features a sculpted bonnet with sleek LED lightbars acting as the headlights in modern tribute to the DMC-12 boxy headlights.

The new DeLorean Alpha5 also features turbine-style wheels for better aero which along with flared wheelarches and the iconic gullwing doors are the standout features when the new car is viewed from the sides.

The rear of the car is dominated by the lightbar style taillights with the illuminated DeLorean logo and the diffuser section.

Step inside the new DeLorean Alpha5 and you'll be greeted by a rarther minimalist interior which we feel rather adds to the clean look of the EV. he wraparound dash features a widescreen driver's display and a vertical infotainment display along with what appears to be two large cup holders for all the coffee addicts out there. The cabin can seat a total of four people including the person behind the wheel.

DeLorean has revealed a few details about the performance figures of the new Alpha5 EV. The carmaker has stated that the new DeLorean Alpha5 will have a battery pack larger than 100kWh which will allow it go over 300 miles (482.6km) on a single charge as per the United States Environmental Protection Agency's testing standards.

The DeLorean Alpha5 will sprint from 0-100km/h in just 3 seconds and has a top speed of 250km/h. For all you Back to the Future geeks out there, DeLorean claims the Alpha5 will sprint from 0-88miles/h (0-141.62km/h) in just 4.35 seconds though the car does lack the flux capacitors need for time travel.

The new DeLorean Alpha5 is also quite a large car. The Alpha5 is 4,995 millimeters long, 2,044mm wide, and 1,370mm tall with the gullwing doors shut. The wheelbase of the DeLorean Alpha5 is 2,300mm long.
