Best Selling SUVs in India: May 2022

Tata Nexon (14,614 units)

Tata Nexon becomes the best selling sub-4m SUV once again as the company managed to sell 14,614 units in May 2022. In comparison, Tata Motors could only manage to sell 6,439 units last year during the same time.

This means Tata Motors' YoY sales for the Tata Nexon have increased by 127 per cent, which is a remarkable feat considering the ongoing chip shortage.

Hyundai Creta (10,973 units)

Hyundai Creta has been a very popular SUV in the Indian automobile market and it is also the best selling Hyundai SUV in the market for quite some time now. In May 2022 alone, the South Korean automaker sold 10,973 units of Hyundai Creta SUVs in India.

In comparison, Hyundai managed to sell just 7,527 units of Hyundai Creta SUVs in May 2021, as a result, YoY sales increased by 46 per cent.

Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza (10,312 units)

Though Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza lost some of its market share in recent times, the petrol-only SUV has shown decent sales performance in May 2022 by selling 10,312 units.

This has resulted in a YoY sales growth of more than 289 per cent as the company managed to sell 7,664 units more compared to May 2021 sales figures.

Tata Punch (10,241 units)

Despite Tata Punch being a relatively new product in India, the SUV quickly gained traction in the Indian market and the company managed to sell 10,241 units in May 2022.

Apart from that, the SUV is also among the safest cars in India with a perfect 5-Star safety rating from Global-NCAP.

Hyundai Venue (8,300 units)

While Hyundai is gearing up to launch the updated iteration of the Hyundai Venue SUV in India, the South Korean automaker sold 8,300 units of the pre-facelift iteration of the Hyundai Venue SUV in May 2022.

In comparison, Hyundai sold just 4,840 units of Venue SUV in May 2021, resulting in YoY sales growth of 71 per cent.

Kia Sonet (7,899 units)

The Kia Sonet has also been a very successful product for Kia Motors in India. In May 2022, Kia sold 7,899 units of Kia Sonet SUV in the country.

This has resulted in YoY sales of Kia Motors improving by 19 per cent as the company managed to sell just 6,627 units in May 2021.

Kia Seltos (5,953 units)

The Kia Seltos is a very desirable SUV in the Indian automobile market. In May 2022, Kia sold 5,953 units of Seltos SUV in the country.

Last year, the company sold just 5,953 units of Seltos SUV in the country resulting in a YoY sales increase of almost 39 per cent.

Mahindra XUV700 (5,069 units)

The Mahindra XUV700 has been an instant hit among Indian consumers. The SUV offers almost everything you want from a mid-size SUV. In May 2022, Mahindra sold 5,069 units of XUV700.

However, the sales of the Mahindra XUV700 can improve significantly once the production improves.

Mahindra XUV300 (5,022 units)

The Mahindra XUV300 is also among the safest SUVs in India with a 5-Star safety rating. In May 2022, Mahindra sold 5,022 units of the SUV.

In comparison, the YoY sales improved by more than 1,901 per cent as the company managed to sell just 251 units in May 2021.
