Motorcycle enthusiasts across the country are in sheer excitement as MotoGP is coming to India this year. The much-awaited MotoGP Bharat event will be hosted at the iconic Buddh International Circuit in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

Promotions are going on across the country, and so far, it has received many positive responses from people. MotoGP Bharat, being the trending topic for quite some time now, the racing culture in India has also seen many advancements, and many have started to express their interest in the sport.

Coimbatore-based CRA Motorsports has launched a race bike, Atom GP1, specially designed for children, priced at Rs 2.75 lakh + GST as a significant step in promoting motorsport at the base level.

The bike is launched targeting budding racers between 10-17 years old. The Atom GP1 aims to establish a unique category as a mini GP motorcycle kit, providing young riders with a specialised experience.

It serves as an ideal motorcycle for children to familiarise themselves with the power and responsibilities of the track before transitioning to larger bikes. It's important to note that the Atom GP1 is not meant for public roads and is exclusively built for track.

The Atom GP1 houses a 5-speed 159.3cc single-cylinder, two-valve, carbureted engine that produces 15bhp of power and 13.85Nm of torque. The bike has a custom-built frame with USD front forks and a mono-shock at the rear.

In terms of braking power, the bike is equipped with a single disc brake at the front and has a petal disc at the rear. Atom GP1 runs on 12-inch alloy wheels borrowed from the TVS NTorq with race compound TVS Remora tyres.

Speaking of design, the Atom GP1 looks similar to big bulky Italian racing bikes with a V4 heart. The motorcycle's body shell is fibreglass, and it houses an SS race exhaust.

The development of the Atom GP1 began in 2020. Throughout these years, the motorcycle underwent rigorous testing at various tracks across India, such as the Kari Motor Speedway, Madras Motor Race Track (MMRT), Chicane Circuit in Hyderabad, and Meco Kartopia.

The motorcycle will be strictly used for training and racing purposes, and the bikes will be manufactured in Coimbatore at CRA Motorsports facility. Currently, the company has a production capacity of 250 units per year.

Thoughts On Atom GP1

The Atom GP1 is an applaudable initiative by CRA Motorsports to promote motorsport at the base level. It's fantastic to see a specialised race bike designed for children, providing them with an early opportunity to experience the excitement and challenges of racing.
